Close Read Reminders

I made this poster of Close Read Reminders for my students, and hung it in my classroom.  I'm going to make a large picture of a pencil, and hang that right next to the poster to remind my students that close readers read with pencil in hand.  Notice how many times the words 
"re-read," and "annotate" appear on the poster.  Notice that I ended with the words, "Dig Deep," which is really our objective when teaching students to read closely.
Below is a transcript, and some explanation, of what I included in the poster:
 
Close Reads
1.  Listen as text is read aloud and read along silently for central idea.  (note the use of central idea instead of main idea as per CCSS)
2.  Number the lines/paragraphs.  (to make it easier to cite/discuss text evidence)
3.  Re-read 1 section at a time.
4.  Look for vocabulary -
            context clues
            denotation/connotation
5.  Annotate!
6.  Re-read for BIG ideas & supprting text evidence.
7.  Annotate!
8.  Re-read for author's style -
                patterns/organization
                figurative language
 9.  Annotate!
10.  Ask yourself questions about the text, especially
                how?
                why?
        
        DIG DEEP!
