And so it’s come to this by David Knuffke

And so it’s come to this

Happy Holidays, Major Thanks, and Best Wishes

This is the last post on AdminThoughts for 2017. Regular readers will recall that I only write pieces for the Fridays of weeks that school is in session. And this is the last one of those this year. But when school comes back into session in January, there won’t be any new posts here. This is the last post on AdminThoughts, full stop.

I started AdminThoughts a few months after I started in my current role as the Curriculum Associate for Science & Technology in my district. The science education podcast (Note: Episode RSS probably isn’t working anymore) that I had co-hosted for the previous 2.5 years was drawing to a close due to our changing roles, and I can’t go for too long without a “creative” outlet for doing my thinking in public. This place was the perfect place for that. But roles continue to change and eventually, even a space like this is no longer fit for purpose.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep writing AdminThoughts when I’m no longer going to be an Admin.

At the beginning of December, I accepted a teaching position for the 18-19 school year at the Singapore American School. How this happened, and why it’s an incredible opportunity for my family and me are all pretty well-detailed in this fresh episode of “Horizontal Transfer”, so you should give that a listen if you want to know the details. But regardless, the change means that it’s silly to continue doing my thinking here. A site called AdminThoughts is no longer the right tool for the job.

In the case of my ongoing writing, that tool is (once again) the blog that I keep on my personal website, which is where I did my public thinking before I moved over here. To mark recent developments, I’ve updated that site and spent particular attention on turning its blog into something useful for my new purpose. If you want to continue to know my thinking about teaching, expatriation, and the work of education more broadly, that’s going to be the place to go into the future. Of course, the work of being a classroom teacher means that the various projects that I helm will continue to develop over the coming years, with several of them re-entering active development with my move back to the classroom. So there will be much to be shared and discussed, it will just happen in different places than this one.

I’d like to thank everyone who has ever visited AdminThoughts and found anything that made them think. Even if you came here only to establish why you vehemently disagree with my stance on some issue or other, just giving my thinking some of your brain space is all that I could ever ask for. All of it has made me a better educator, and my experiences in education over these past two years have only served to make me a better teacher. Extra special thanks go out to my Patreon supporters, for actually helping to keep the digital lights on, and the team over at SchoolLeadership2.0 for sharing my work with their giant audience.

Thanks for the thoughts. I’m always around for any more you have.

PS- This site isn’t going away, but the AdminThoughts.me URL will eventually expire, at which point you’ll only be able to access here through the native Medium URL.
