My name is Marianne O’Donnell. Recently, I retired as a teacher at the Munsey Park School in Manhasset after 36 years as a learning specialist with a comprehensive teaching experience at every grade level.

During this tenure, I had taken on lead roles in facilitating curriculum-based programs, had become a Fellow of the Center for the Study of Expertise in Teaching and Learning to improve student learning and had engaged in the portfolio process to obtain National Board Certification, offered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The rigor and rich level of professional inquiry about ‘best practices’ in education have been undoubtedly fulfilling and have guided me on my journey of leadership.

Currently, I am a professor and curriculum developer in the Continuing Education Department at Molloy University. I am in partnership with the MOST Coordinators, Molloy Opportunity for Successful Transitions. It is a journey of growth for young adults with multiple disabilities to provide life skill academics, social and career building opportunities.

I grew up in Brooklyn and in Hampton Bays, New York. These were two extremely special places in my life growing up with my parents because they were able to nurture me as an individual to appreciate the beautiful world around me and raised me to respect all people and creatures! Life was always a journey to do great things.A place to practice the extraordinary and to take on a challenge. To be that change-maker!

I especially want to acknowledge my parents for their greatness! My mother was a graphic arts teacher and my father was an auto mechanics teacher in a vocational school. Both of my parents had a vocational outlook for helping other people to learn a skill and a trade. They always reminded me that your passions can lead you to do great work and change the lives of others.

I am very fortunate to have chosen such an important career that continues to allow me to engage students to strive with fortitude and to have vision to reach positive life goals.
