Head of School PCCS - CFA Gastonia, NC Piedmont Community Charter School

Head of School PCCS - CFA Gastonia, NC

Piedmont Community Charter School – A Challenge Foundation Academy is seeking a gifted educator, exceptional communicator, and attentive manager to serve as the new Head of School. A model of character and integrity, this individual must be passionate about working with students, faculty/staff, parents, and the larger community to reach new levels of achievement and success.

Partnering with, and reporting to, the Board of Directors, the Head of School is responsible for implementing all the policies and programs that support the mission, core values, qualities and skills identified in the Portrait of a Graduate, and the School’s Vision Statement. Working closely with the administration and faculty/staff, the Head of School oversees all day-to-day operations, including curriculum, enrollment, facilities, finances, fundraising, personnel, and public relations.

Piedmont Community Charter School – A Challenge Foundation Academy is a tuition free K-12 school that offers a superior college preparatory education. Started in 2000, the school operates on two campuses – one for Kindergarten through Grade 5 and the other Grades 6 through 12 – and serves approximately 1,175 students. Thanks to a dedicated and caring faculty/staff, the Core Knowledge Curriculum, and a strong fine arts program, the school has grown substantially. The school launched a 1:1 technology initiative for Grades 3-12 this year, which positions us well for personalized learning experiences for the students and innovative tools for the teachers.

With input from the community, the Board of Directors has identified a few opportunities for the Head of School to consider upon his or her arrival. These include unifying both campuses with a shared purpose and community spirit, determining optimal enrollment and a plan to reduce attrition on the secondary campus, implementing a math and science curriculum that will complement Core Knowledge and challenge the students in the High School, and developing a campus master plan or community partnerships that will enable the expansion of facilities to match the needs of growing programs like the fine arts.

To be considered for the position, candidates must have a graduate degree, successful experience as a school administrator, a minimum of five years of teaching (or related experience), and a genuine interest in being involved in the life of the school and greater community. Experience with the Core Knowledge sequence is preferred, but not required.

To apply for this leadership opportunity, candidates should email a letter of interest, current resume, statement of educational philosophy, and names and contact information of three references to PCCSHeadofSchoolSearch@gmail.com.

The application deadline is Monday, April 8, 2013.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
