Comments on July 5 Poll - Make Standardized Tests Optional for College Admissions

Should standardized test scores such as the SAT and ACT be made optional for admission to colleges and universities?

Answer Respondent
I never did well on high stakes, standardized tests, but was very successful in both undergraduate and graduate programs at competitive universities. However, I did not get accepted to my first choice which I believe was because my SAT scores were not very impressive. We place too much emphasis on testing. Anonymous
I absolutely don't know the answer to this. A required SAT score at the Merchant Marine Academy prevented my daughter from attending (2o points). On the other hand, how do colleges weed out the number of applications? Anonymous
SAT/ACT are a money-making opportunity for big companies. I do not believe they are the best reflection of a person's ability to succeed in college or a vocation. Anonymous
They should not have either of these tests instead should look at the whole person, what was their life like that influenced them to this point. Anonymous
SAT and ACT exams should be done away with. Colleges should base admission on high school GPA, community service, etc. Do away with SAT and ACTs. They are a waste of time and money and just stress students out. High school grades and GPA gives a more accurate picture. Anonymous
Grades are too subjective - by the school and by teacher - you need outside exams Anonymous
They should not be required Anonymous
I think these scores are somewhat important but they should be considered along with a student's overall performance and activities. Anonymous
