Comments from 5/2/21 Poll - Teachers controlling student screens

Remote classroom-management tools like Securly Classroom and its competitors give teachers an expansive, real-time look into what their students are viewing or working on. As Hootman discovered, they also contain a panoply of features, like the ability to freeze a student's screen, or to call up, block, or limit tabs.  Should teachers be able to control student screens?

Answer Respondent
You need to have control to stop/block inappropriate posts or materials. Anonymous
This is a tough one. To what extent? Only when students are logged into class perhaps, should teachers have control; but what if they're on their parents' device, shared computers? I think I'll vote no, simply because it's a slippery slope giving teachers that kind of control. Anonymous
Yes, we work with the PK-2 students and we are teaching digital citizenship. We are also charged with keeping kids safe, so we need the tools to do so. We use Go Guardian. Anonymous
Not a problem, but I don’t think teachers would use that frequently or consistently since this would be time-consuming Anonymous
