Apply to the International Educators for Africa Program Today! Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis for projects in various sub-Saharan African countries, including Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Nigeria, among others.
The International Educators for Africa (IEFA) program is an initiative of the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH) in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), private donors and various corporations.
Since 1992, IFESH has deployed nearly 1,500 American volunteer educators to support educational reform efforts and strengthen teacher training within primary and secondary schools, teacher-training colleges and universities, and ministries of education.
The IEFA program invites applications from teachers, college/university professors, and school administrators, who wish to volunteer for one or two academic years in order to help improve the quality of education in sub-Saharan Africa. Qualified applicants should have a least with 5+ years teaching experience. Educators with fluent verbal and written French are strongly encouraged to apply for positions in Francophone countries.
Educators with expertise in the following disciplines are in greatest demand:
- Early Childhood Education (with emphasis on early grade reading comprehension)
- Special Education
- Literacy Specialists
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Teacher-Training, Curriculum Development
- Education Administration
- Information Technology
- Agriculture, Civil, Electrical, Geological, Mechanical and Mining Engineering
Participants in the IEFA program receive:
- A monthly living stipend of USD$850
- Health and emergency evacuation insurance
- Roundtrip airfare
- Paid, furnished accommodations
