The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires school districts to provide instructional materials to students with print disabilities in a timely manner.

From the NIMAS website it explains: NIMAS "guides the production and electronic distribution of digital versions of textbooks and other instructional materials so they can be more easily converted into accessible formats."

How many of you are familiar with NIMAS? If you are, how are you using it? Is it easy to use?

Looks a little complicated at first glance. I need to spend more time looking it over. Are there any special features I shouldn't miss?
I'm not familar with NIMAS, but this year I had a student who needed large print text because of a visual condition. His vision teacher from Boces was able to get me large print materials for him, so I never had to worry about getting them. Could anyone use NIMAS?
Danielle, I think anyone can use NIMAS but you have to sign up. Have you had luck? How is your Connectquot group doing?
Are any districts scanning textbooks for their students? If yes, I wonder if we could share our scans? I would think it would be legal as long as each district owned their own copy of the textbook. We would just be saving each other time. Is anyone scanning?
Hi Lorianne, this is a good question, I'm not sure if people are scanning or using the online texts. Some textbook providers have their books online already. Do you want to ask this of the larger group instead of just our little group? You can open up a discussion in the front page.
