iPad Solutions Guide," Designing Wi-Fi for Multimedia in the Age of the iPad". It was administered by the Univ of Ottawa and details the validation of Voice and Video for over 100 iPads.
The guide states:
"The iPad is fast gaining ground in higher education and the enterprise due to its focus on multimedia, mobility and its diverse array of functionality enabled by dynamically downloaded applications. Unlike first generation mobile platforms, it has the horsepower, battery life and connectivity bandwidth to deliver a true multimedia experience".

I am from Long Island living and working in Maryland now. Our district is rocking and rolling with iPads. We have over 6,000 iPads in our school district with an emphasis on middle schools and special education. If you have not looked a the Textbooks on iPads, go to www.apple.com and search for textbook and look at the videos and you will be blown out of the water.
Saint Mary's High School had many inquiries about how we successfully launched our iPad program with our Freshmen class this past year. We decided to host a Technology Information meeting to bring these Administrators, IT Directors and faculty to campus to share our journey and what was needed to support this initiative. If interested, you are invited to join us on January 4,2012 at 3:00pm. Please RSVP Joan Hirsch at 516.627.2511 extension 1078 or email jhirsch@st.mary.ws for particulars. Agenda...Infrastructure Requirements and Mobile Device Management with iPAds. Hope to see you on 1/4.
Scholars' Academy, a public grade 6-12 school in Rockaway Park, launched just under 400 iPads in mid November.
The entire 7th grade is working on a one:one model and 8th grade and high school cooperative learning groups will work with a 1:3 model. Not ideal, but the money only goes so far. This supplements our laptop cart access and traditional iMac technology labs. Grade 6 does not have ipads, but every student has a kindle. We are in the process of learning on how to best leverage these tools. "Efficiencies" are abound. Watch this video to see a short, but cute skit, the students put together for the "Virtual Ribbon Cutting." It is about 13 minutes in. Cheers! http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18536407
While iPad has shown innovative ways of infusing mobile technology into the process of teaching and learning, have the classroom practitioners found right frameworks to guide their thinking, planning, and practice in using mobile devices for innovative ways of teaching and learning? It is important for the learning community to systemically explore, synthesize, theorize, and document the power of mobile technology for learning.
BTW, is this $99 price tag going to change the landscape of ubiquitous access of technology and digital content for learning? check it out:
Hi Grace,
I teach a course at Lynbrook High School and started iPhone/iPad development last year. We started using Flash/Flash Actionscript to develop games. We use Flash because you can develop for Android and iPhone apps in the same software.
With my more advaced class we will use xCode and Objective-C. Later this year we will be doing a cross curricular project Science Research, Technology and Computer Programming to use iPads to control the electrical components of a doll house. Technology will design and build the house, the computer class will use Arduino/WiFly Shield and iPads to turn lights/fans and etc on and off, over a wifi connection. Later Sceince research will convert the house to solar power.
Had to share this video! Anyone know of an APP creation class or club on Long Island? It seems like a 'winning' idea! c'mon we can do this!
