iPad  and Teaching Climate Change

A subgroup of study has been created as part of the LifeLines for HIgh School Climate Change Education Project funded by a NASA grant conducted through the Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley. This purpose of the project is to promote the teaching of climate change by building a support system for teachers.  The support system would establish professional learning communities (PLC) to share resources and ideas to assist in the teaching of climate change at the secondary level by building 20 PLC's nationwide.

The use of technology is a vital and growing component of today's teaching world.  The iPad is one of the most popular technology components to have been released.  Recent marketing research shows that one out of five students have an iPad.  The iPad has attracted the interest of the educational community with its versatility and power.  In light of this information, the project leadership has agreed to allow a focused PLC to form that will be comprised of teachers who have an iPad to use in their teaching.  The aim of the iPad PLC would be to investigate the use of the iPad in the teaching of climate change.  Participants will be expected to participate at monthly electronic meeting to share ideas and concerns and build a network between themselves. Meetings will be scheduled October through May of the school year and teachers will receive a $100 stipend for their participation in the project.  The initial planning meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 10th at 8 pm EST.    All interested educators may apply by completing the application form at this link:
