Invitational Education

Information

Invitational Education

Invitational Education is a self-concept approach to creating a positive school climate.  Inviting educators communicate with intentionally optimistic, respectful, trustworthy and caring words and actions. These inviting strategies help all stakeholders to see themselves as able, valuable, and responsible, which then motivates them to take charge of their learning and choose beneficial actions.  Inviting schools enjoy increased academic success, attendance, effort, collaboration, positive behaviors, and staff morale. What can school leaders do to insure that student and staff motivation flourishes in an age of testing and evaluation?  Inviting educators around the world use Invitational Education strategies to become skillful communicators who positively influence what staff and students believe to be true about themselves, which leads to a positive self-concept, intrinsic motivation, and beneficial choices of behavior.  Please enjoy the attached article:  An Introduction to Invitational Theory and Practice, by William Purkey and John Novak.
