Dear friends,

The Long Island Youth Safety Coalition (LIYSC) is a group of organizations involved in educating the public about the use of the Internet by children and how to help them stay safe. The coalition, run by the Nassau County DA's office, held its first conference in December. We are currently planning a followup conference for late March.

We would like to find out what type of sessions you feel would be important to offer. The topics this time around will most likely have recommended strands (administrator/teacher/parent) and cover topics on the law, state education requirements and best practices from districts.

We welcome your input.

If you would like to leave a comment, please respond to this discussion or send me a private message.

I wish you all a happy and healthy new year!

Hi Blanca,

I would like to know more about the laws regarding social networking.  I am interested in the laws in New York and how it compares to the laws in other states.  I am also interested in the laws around the world regarding social networking.

Thanks,

Kathy Haack

Thank you, Kathy. The laws around the world regarding social networking is an interesting one. We'll have to ask around and do some online research on it. We are currently bringing in one of the top attorneys on educational law to hold a session. I'm hoping that State Ed can share some information about the role that social networks can play and do play in education. As for general laws regarding cyberbullying, etc. concerning the general use of SN sites, I will find out. Thank you for posting so many good topics!
