Mastic Beach, NY - January 5th, 2014 - Tricia Interrante, Coordinator of Technology for the William Floyd School District, was one of only two educators from New York State selected to receive the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) “Making IT Happen” award, which honors outstanding educators and leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage and persistence in improving digital learning opportunities for students. Ms. Interrante was selected to receive the award by the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE) at the annual conference held recently in Rochester, NY. 

“It was a complete surprise and honor to receive this award,” said Ms. Interrante. “To be a part of this exceptional group of educators demonstrates the extraordinary work that we have accomplished here at William Floyd.” She added that being recognized at the ISTE Conference next June will be a memorable experience. “When looking back on my career in education and technology, it was William Floyd, led by the support of Dr. Paul Casciano, the Board of Education, our administrative staff and our entire district staff who believed in my recommendations which helped us to transform our district into a leader in educational technology.”

ISTE and ISTE affiliates such as NYSCATE, have presented this award to approximately 500 worthy leaders since the program’s inception in 1995. Recipients are recognized as educators who are forward thinking; apply available technology now; see students as real people; teach through relationships; motivate through awareness and access to information; recognize that change is necessary but is a gradual process; realize that teacher empowerment is the key element in technology integration; and expect success.

“Making IT Happen” honorees are presented with an award jacket and certificate, a one-year membership to ISTE and a standing invitation to “Making IT Happen” receptions held at every ISTE conference.

Ms. Interrante also serves as a NYSCATE Executive Board Member and Past-President of the Association of Suffolk County Supervisors of Educational Technology.
