Teacher Supply Boxes Supplies Grants

Is your classroom in need of new supplies? Consider applying for a Teacher Supply Box grant from the Kids In Need Foundation. The grants, available to educators in high-need schools, provide an assortment of essential items for classroom teachers. To apply, applicants must supply a brief, 750-word essay describing how the supply boxes would positively impact their classrooms.
Prize: Successful applicants receive two large boxes of essential classroom supplies.

Grants for Boat and Car Maintenance Programs

Do you need funding for a hands-on boat or car maintenance learning program? The RPM Foundation provides grants to organizations to support hands-on learning projects for high school and college-aged students. In the past, high schools, museums, and career learning centers have earned grants to offer hands-on restoration and maintenance projects. Prize: Several grants are available; first-time grants average $10,000.

Small Research Grants from Spencer Foundation

The Small Research Grant program from the Spencer Foundation supports education research projects with budgets of $50,000 or less. In general, the foundation funds projects that "will contribute to the improvement of education," and the foundation accepts proposals in several areas of study, including the relationship of education and social opportunity, new civics, instructional resources, organizational learning, and purpose of education. DiscoverE Collaboration Grants Overview

Need funding for an engineering outreach program? DiscoverE Collaboration Grants provide funding to support programs that engage youth in the engineering community with hands-on learning. Eligible programs will be led by a group of at least three partnering organizations. See a list of the past winning projects online.

Pets in the Classroom Grants

Looking for financial support for a classroom pet? The Pets in the Classroom grants program provides financial support for educators to purchase and maintain small classroom pets. Established by the Pet Care Trust, the grants are designed to students the chance to interact with pets. Educators in grades pre-K through ninth are eligible to apply. Applications for the 2017-18 school year open in August.
Prize: A variety of small grants are available, including store, rebate, and maintenance funding.

Field Trip Grants from the Civil War Trust

Want to get outdoors for a history lesson? The Civil War Trust's field trip grants allow K-12 educators to take students on learning trips at natural historic sites. In particular, The Trust provides grants to help educators plan field trips to Civil War, War of 1812, and Revolutionary War battlefields, as well as related historic sites.
Prize: Grants are available up to $1,500.

NEW! American History and Civics Academies Funding
Deadline: August 21, 2017
History and civics educators, this funding opportunity is for you! The Department of Education's Office of Innovation & Improvement is offering grants to support the establishment of American history and civics academies for new and veteran teachers. These academies should provide workshops to help prepare and strengthen educators' knowledge of these subjects. Additionally, grants are available to support academies for high school students to broaden and deepen their knowledge of these subjects.

CEE National Technology Leadership Award
Deadline: August 15, 2017
Each year, the Conference on English Education (CEE) selects an educator for the National Technology Leadership Award. One honoree is selected to present innovative approaches to using technology in English education at the SITE conference. Interested applicants can nominate themselves or a colleague. Teacher education faculty, graduate students, and preK-12 educators can apply.

CEE James Moffett Award

Looking for funding for research on English education? The NCTE's Conference on English Education and the National Writing Project are funding research programs that uphold the spirit of James Moffett. Projects with a focus on student-centered curricula, writing across curriculum, and alternative options to standardized testing are given preference.

Penguin Random House Teacher Literacy Awards

Each year, the Penguin Random House Literacy Awards honor educator-led projects that cultivate literacy and encourage a lifelong love of reading. Nominations are open now, and educators can also apply for the award. A list of past winning projects is available online. Awards include $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500 awards, as well as book donations and a travel stipend to the NCTE conference for the grand prize winner.

I Love My Librarian Awards
Deadline: September 18, 2017
The I Love My Librarian Awards, from the American Library Association, honor librarians who have made positive impacts at their school, campus, or community. Nominate a librarian now. Public, school, community college, and university librarians are eligible for the award. Ten awardees receive $5,000 cash prizes.

Google recently released Be Internet Awesome, a digital citizenship learning framework for designed for kids. The program features a curriculum, learning resources, and games that help younger students learn how to be safe online. If you're looking for fun, engaging science resources, you're bound to find some useful ones here. Choose from lesson plans, as well as games, films and clips, and other interesting multimedia.

Free STEM Outreach Programs From Lockheed Martin
Lockheed Martin is committed to advancing STEM curriculum in the classroom. The organization supports a variety of STEM outreach programs, offering free curricula, student STEM contests, and mentoring opportunities for high school students. From Generation Beyond, a free aerospace classroom resource, to Code Quest, a coding contest for young students, Lockheed Martin funds a number of diverse initiatives that empower young learners.

Free Activities for Teaching Science and Math With Music
MathScienceMusic.org, a new website from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and the NYU MusEDLab, features free resources to help teachers incorporate music in science and math lessons. The activities and apps are designed for all students, kindergarten through college. Subjects covered include geometry and physics, among many others, and all lessons teach students about the strong relationship between music and STEM learning.
