Some teachers say they are concerned that facial coverings intended to protect them amid the coronavirus pandemic will add to the challenge of communicating with students during in-person learning. Some say they are using clear plastic shields and masks with a window allowing view of the mouth for facial expressions needed for nonverbal communication -- particularly for students with special needs and English-language learners.
