Four Innovative Workshops Presented by Dr. Peter Osroff
Dr. Peter Osroff served as teacher, dean, assistant principal, human resources coordinator and principal with the New York City, Syosset, Jericho and Garden City school systems. Dr. Osroff served several years as the president of the Nassau County Middle School Principals' Association and as a NYS Middle Level Liaison. He was a principal mentor and school evaluator with the NYS Department of Education's Schools to Watch program. He was recognized by the Council of Administrators and Supervisors (CAS) as the Middle School Principal of the Year. Nassau BOCES awarded him their prestigious Education Partner Award for his significant impact on Long Island education.
All workshops are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The tenure-process years are highly stressful for new teachers. Invariably, new teachers struggle with lesson planning, classroom management, and navigating their school's culture and politics.

Successfully Training Mentors to Meet the Needs of New Teachers
The tenure-process years are highly stressful for the new teacher. Research shows that 50% of new teachers will leave teaching within their first five years. However, new teachers who are supported with strong mentor programs have a much higher retention rates.
The mentor teacher has the responsibility to fulfill a crucial role. This workshop will provide mentor teachers with the solid hands-on assistance they need to be a highly effective mentor. Participants will leave this workshop able to identify the (wide-ranging) needs of their mentee and how to best structure their support throughout the year to ensure his/her success. This workshop will span a large breadth of material designed to have attendees leave the workshop far more secure in their role and responsibilities as mentor.
