Summer Work Opportunities for HS Graduates in Paid Internships

Re:  Summer Work Opportunities for Graduates in Paid Internships.

Career and Employment Options (CEO) sent a letter to your district’s Special Education Department in March of this year.  CEO received a grant from the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Intergovernmental Affairs Division of Employment and Training.  The grant runs from March 15, 2014-September 30, 2014.     The following services are available to your students who are graduating without charge to your district.  This program is funded by the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Labor and provided by CEO.  We are reminding schools as we are running out of available slots for students and want to ensure your participation.  Please review the following.

  • ·       CEO will provide paid internships at $8.75 per hour (funded through the Oyster Bay Department of Labor) at sites that reflect student career interests.
  • ·       The grant serves WIA-eligible youth in the towns of Oyster BayNorth Hempstead and the city of Glen Cove.
  • ·       CEO will prepare graduating youth for a successful transition to competitive employment and/or post secondary education with employment preparation and training.
  • ·       Our services will include: outreach, intakes, recruitment, assessment, and development of an Individual Service Strategy (ISS) as well as appropriate internship sites.
  • ·       CEO staff will also work with youths on work readiness skills, resume development, interviewing skills, career exploration/job search techniques, career instruction, linkages, career guidance, work experience, and job placement/referral to post secondary training.
  • ·       All CEO staff are certified special education teachers or certified guidance counselors.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
