Currently, I am working with middle school principals on school transformation.  We are examining different electives and school day schedules and I am looking for input.  We are trying to offer more opportunities for electives that are relevant and engaging, and we are looking at ways to add some time for teachers to engage in professional learning communities.  Currently, we run very traditional schedules - 7 periods with teachers teaching 6 of 7.  We have also implemented an iPad program where all 8th grade students were given an iPad to use at school and home.
