Dear Superintendent,

It is with great interest that I am applying for School Counselor/Special Education Coordinator position at your School District.  I am a New York State Permanently Certified School Counselor from K-12.  I recently earned my 2nd Masters of Science from Touro College, in School Administration and Supervision, where I obtained my School Building Leader Certification.  My work, educational and life experience has prepared me to further my professional development and work in an environment where community involvement, creativity, and diversity is valued.

For the past five years I have been a School Counselor at Amber Charter School.  My knowledge and experience has given me a deep understanding of how to foster the development of a supportive educational community and school environment that encourages learning for a very diverse student population. Through constant observation, collaboration, and assessment, I considered student’s strengths, skills and personalities in order to encourage cooperative learning, and academic and social achievement. We use the RTI model when intervening in the classroom, as well as focus on helping students improve peer relationships, conflict resolution/bullying, organizational skills, self-esteem, and academic performance.  My experience supporting students and teachers has awarded me an additional job title as Special Education Coordinator.  More specifically, I modeled how to document relevant interventions, student achievement and facilitated in-house initial referral meetings.  Collaboration and trust among teachers, specialists and parents is critical in making sure that all students are given the tools that they need to work up to their potential. This school year, I have been chosen to participate in the Maverick Education Partnership with Teachers College Inclusive Classroom Project (TCICP).  This project focuses on Flexible Services with Special Education, and how schools can create a wide range of flexible delivery models so that students can optimize their academic, social and emotional success through restructured schedules and resources that maximize time space and staff. School educators meet monthly, collaborating across NYC schools, designed to build capacity, stimulate and support inquiry and to support teachers and school leaders to be professional development providers in their own schools.   Additionally, I coordinated and developed a process for the articulation of 5th grade students, who are graduating and entering Middle School.  I organized parent and student workshops, assisted with Open Houses, Admissions and entry-exam information. I visited Middle Schools in NYC in search of high performing Dept of Ed public as well as Charter Schools for our 5th grade class.  My sincere efforts and dedication to education, is reflected in my strong partnerships, and the increased confidence of my students, as I give them the opportunity to succeed in their current and future academic setting.

Teaching and learning is a collaborative effort.  My knowledge, strong sense of responsibility, resourcefulness and desire to support others, is reflected in all that I do.  Having experienced working as a Vocational Counselor/ Supervisor for almost 3 years, at a substance abuse treatment facility in NYC, I worked directly with VESID, and counseled both adolescents and adults educationally, vocationally, and socially.  I also interned at Sayville High School.  My ability to understand people and form trusting relationships has been invaluable in providing them with the proper support.

I would appreciate the opportunity to further discuss my professional skills and ultimately how I would be an asset to your school’s team.  Attached is my resume for your reflection.  I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Renee B. Greene
