NBPTS to Host Webcast Formally Releasing “Getting It Right” Report
Research tells us that teacher effectiveness is the strongest predictor of student achievement. The nationwide call for school transformation, and the acknowledgement that all students deserve great teachers, means that states and school districts are working hard to determine how to best evaluate and support teachers. To get there, they’re exploring the ways to assess teachers and to gauge a teacher’s effect on student performance and instructional practice.
Drawing from its own experiences in certifying accomplished teachers, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) developed Getting It Right: A Comprehensive Guide to Developing and Sustaining Teacher Evaluation and Support Systems. This informative guide will serve as a much-needed resource for states and districts as they develop their own teacher evaluation and support systems.
NBPTS will host a webcast on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 (EDT). National Board Certified Teachers and advocates of teaching excellence are encouraged to participate.
These are high-stakes efforts that must be carefully planned, involve teachers, be built around clear and achievable goals and include plans to support teachers at all levels of the teaching profession.
Featured Speakers and Panelists
• Bob Wise, President, Alliance for Excellent Education, Chair, NBPTS Board of Directors
• Joan Auchter, Chief Innovation Officer (presenter), NBPTS
• Brenda Welburn, Executive Director, National Association of State Boards of Education
• Peggy Brookins, National Board Certified Teacher, Florida; member, NBPTS Board of Directors

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
