National Assistant Principals Week - April 16-April 20, 2012

National Assistant Principals Week

Celebrate Assistant Principals Week 2012!

NASSP has declared the week of April 16-April 20, 2012, as National Assistant Principals Week to honor and recognize the contributions of assistant principals to the success of students in schools across the United States.

Assistant principals (APs) play a key role in today's schools. National Assistant Principals Week is intended to highlight the many challenges APs face on a daily basis, from serving as a vital link between virtually every sector of the school community, to helping maintain the day-to-day logistical operations of schools.

National Recognition
In honor of National Assistant Principals Week, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) has introduced H. Res. 195, a resolution expressing support for National Assistant Principals Week and recognizing the hard work and dedication of APs throughout the year. Additionally, 2011 NASSP/Virco National Assistant Principal of the Year finalist Kirsten Clemons, assistant principal of Blue Springs South High School in Blue Springs, MO, and Texas State Assistant Principal of the Year Marie Rossmann were recognized in the Congressional Record.

Celebrating AP Week
NASSP will mark National Assistant Principals Week by hosting all of theNASSP/Virco National Assistant Principal of the Year program winners in Washington, D.C. The NASSP/Virco National Assistant Principal of the Year award honors a single winner from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) schools. From that pool of outstanding administrators, one national winner is chosen.

During their stay in Washington, state and national winners will be honored at a black-tie event and will meet with their members of Congress to discuss the many challenges facing school leaders today. The winners will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of networking activities with their peers.
