Dear Colleague,

The Nassau County Mathematics Teachers Association is planning for the 2011 Teacher of the Year awards.  Each of us knows at least one outstanding teacher worthy of nomination.  This year we will honor superlative teachers on the elementary, middle/junior high, senior high and college levels.

Please forward this notice to the appropriate person(s) as soon as possible.

Nominations can be made in one of two ways:

• By a teacher’s supervisor: complete the application form and enclose any relevant information.
• By a teacher’s colleague: complete the application form, enclose any relevant information and obtain the signature of principal or college chairperson.

Any nominated teacher may submit material relevant to their nomination.

If you would like to submit a nomination for this award, please return the requested information by February 15^th.  Please refer to the nomination guidelines when making your submissions.  The details in the letter of recommendation greatly assist the committee in making their decision.  If the candidate teaches several different courses, it would be helpful to include a copy of the schedule.

NCMTA reserves the right not to issue an award in every category.  Supervisors are encouraged to resubmit outstanding teacher nominations from previous years.  However, former winners, officers of the NCMTA and members of the selection committee are not eligible.

The Teacher of the Year Awards will be presented at our Annual Dinner Meeting on Thursday, May 12^th.  Award winners will be guests of the NCMTA.  The award winner and nominators are encouraged to invite family and colleagues to join them at the dinner to honor them.  All completed forms should be sent by February 15th to:

Nomination Guidelines

A.  Complete the attached application.

• Middle School/High School Nominees must have at least a 3/5ths classroom assignment.

• College faculty nominees must be full-time.

B.  Submit a letter of recommendation.  Please use the question and answer format that follows the application form.  The candidate may be consulted for details.

The more information you give us, the better the committee is able to fully evaluate the candidate.  Remember to mail both the letter and nomination form by February 15th to:
