Shift from Compliance Thinking
to
Real Improvement Thinking
Unless we measure what we value, we cannot aspire to produce the outcomes we seek. Measuring school improvement and making effective use of data are complex endeavors that transcend what achievement data reveals. They demand that we use measures and tools that assess what key school stakeholders (i.e., students, teachers and administrators) learn and focus on, what they value, and how they work with each other.
This session will showcase a variety of student, teacher, and school outcomes (i.e., understanding complexity, dealing with ambiguity, collaboration, problem finding, etc.), which are often valued, but seldom, if ever, measured. It will also include an overview of measures that schools could use to document progress and attainment on such outcomes. Participants will have opportunities to explore how to mediate and address APPR requirements in ways that leverage these mandates and will learn about how schools can use existing structures, like PLCs, to be strategic and systemic in their assessment adoption, design and refinement.
Target audience: teams of central office and school administrators with lead teachers.
