Google Classroom turns one, gets new upgrades

Dive Brief:

  • Google Classrooms, a learning management system based around Google Drive, is celebrating its one-year anniversary with new updates to its mobile app.
  • Users can now edit, create, and grade assignments from the app, leave private notes on student documents so feedback stays between the teacher and student, and scan and add print documents using their mobile device's camera, according to EdSurge.
  • In the year since its launch, 70 million assignments have been created on Classroom and Google Apps for Education, and the app has over 40 million teacher and student users.

Dive Insight:

Google Classrooms has been one of the most fun apps to follow since it seems to have a steady stream of updates and new features, a testament to Google's desire to push the limits in making data sharing and tracking seamless for education.

For those who don't remember, a little recap of the product's history: Google Classrooms was announced in beta in May 2014. By August, it had fully launched, and September brought the announcement of unlimited storage. October marked a round of upgrades (the integration of Google Groups), followed by mobile compatibility in January and custom themes in February.

It will be interesting to see what is to come in the next year.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
