Four Books I'm Reading

At any given time, I'm reading 4-5 books on the topics of education, leadership, and personal growth. By popular request, I’m sharing my latest reads.

For more detailed information on my reading habits, check out this blog post

The Art of Alignment by Art Johnson

Print | eBook | Audiobook

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: I love "systems thinking," but struggle to find books that cover this important leadership topic. If you liked The Advantage, you will like this book as well. This 2021 book is hugely underrated and deserves to be talked about more in leadership circles.

Best Line: "When the right people with the right skills are in the right roles, the best answers will come from those people who are closest to the work that must be done."

7 Strategies for Wealth & Happiness by Jim Rohn

Print | eBook

⭐⭐⭐

Summary: If you haven't heard of Jim Rohn, you need to check out his work. I believe Rohn is right up there with Peter Drucker and Jim Collins in terms of the best leadership "thinkers" of our time. While not my favorite book of his ... Rohn still manages to drop some serious 🔥🔥!!

Best Line: "Discipline is the foundation on which all success is built. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure. Yet, many do not associate lack of discipline with lack of success."

The Subtle Art of Not ... by Mark Manson

Print | eBook | Audiobook

⭐⭐⭐

Summary: For months, I avoided buying this wildly successful book based on the title (I think using the "F" work in book titles is tacky). But ... if you can get over the swearing, the content is actually pretty good. I also love Mark Manson's lesser-known book Models

Best Line: "Most of us struggle throughout our lives by giving too much energy to situations where energy does not deserve to be given. If you find yourself consistently giving too much energy to trivial stuff that bothers you, chances are you don’t have much going on in your life to care about."

The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco

Print | Audiobook

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: I first heard about this book on the Knowledge for Men Podcast. While DeMarco can be a little arrogant and brash, if you like reading about retirement, personal finance, and wealth-building, add this book to your list.

Best Line: "Education is free for your consumption. Infinite knowledge is at your fingertips. Turn off the TV, pick up a book.  Quit playing fantasy football and hit the library. Quit the Xbox and hit the books. You have the innate power to become an expert at anything not requiring physical talent."

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
