Experienced FT Physical Education Teacher and Coach seeks position on LI

Dear Sir or Madam,

It is with great anticipation that I present my resume to you for a Physical Education position at the elementary, middle or high school level. In addition to acquiring a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sport Sciences from Hofstra University, I have 4 years of hands-on teaching experience.

As you will note in my enclosed resume, I am currently in my fourth year as a full time Head Physical Education Teacher at Village Community School, a NYSAIS independent school in Greenwich Village, NY. This position enables me to organize and manage physical activities for students in grades K-8 that promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle, teamwork, positive sportsmanship and personal enjoyment. In addition to teaching, I head coach or assistant coach various teams each season throughout the school year, and have also run a multi-sport afterschool program for elementary students.

Along with teaching, I take great pride in being an active team member in the physical education department and school community.  I take on many responsibilities within the department, including curriculum planning, scheduling, running the department’s web page, being responsible for the departmental budget and ordering equipment for physical education classes and the afterschool athletics program. I also often work with classroom teachers to develop cross-curricular physical activities.

Additionally, I am attending Adelphi University and working on my Masters in Sport Management. I will be graduating in August 2013 and will subsequently be applying for my NYS Permanent Teaching Certification.  Furthermore, I value myself as being a lifelong learner and have attended many professional development opportunities offered by AHPERD and NYSAIS.  I am constantly striving to be a well-rounded educator that is continuously improving my methods so that my students will always be motivated and excited to participate in physical education.

As a December 2008 graduate from Hofstra University, I have student teaching experience at both the elementary and high school level from William Floyd School District. In my junior year at Hofstra University, I founded and became president of PhysEd4Life, a majors club. As the leader of this club, I ran many successful events, such as an American Heart Association Hoops for Heart Tournament. Upon graduating college, I worked as a per-diem substitute in the Central Islip and Hampton Bays School Districts, as well as the Gym Activities Supervisor of Reach CYA, an afterschool program in the Half Hollow Hills School District.

In closing, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my extensive experience and skills would benefit your school.  Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Christina Amitrano

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
