Book of the Week: Leadership Lessons from the Field: A Companion Guide for Leaders

Leadership Lessons from the Field: A Companion Guide for Leaders

by Dr. Jean Carol Kendall, Dr. Fred M. Apgar, et al. | Dec 16, 2024

Leadership Lessons From the Field was written by three educators who enjoyed long and successful careers as educational
administrators. One was the principal of an elementary school recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence for which
she was invited to be a Leadership Presenter at the 2022 Blue Ribbon awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. Two served as
Athletic Directors of school districts with national reputations for excellence. Drawing upon their vast experience and unique skill
sets learned on the athletic field, the authors provide valuable insight into leadership. The book is a must-read for aspiring
administrators and a fine addition to the libraries of those who are always seeking ways in which to hone their leadership skills.
“In addition to the fulfillment of one’s mission, successful team building is likely to produce another
much sought after phenomenon, synergy.”
“Be patient and willing to take time to develop your own pathway to possibility thinking.”
“Human connection and interpersonal relationships develop cohesion on the field and in the school building.”
“Great coaches and great leaders create an environment where diverse skills and input are welcome
and come together to solve problems and make decisions, regardless of roles, status, or seniority.”
“Successful administrators will seek creative ways in which to consistently reinforce the concept of mission
among all team members.”

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
