A message from Joan Fretz:

After 17 years of using Invitational Education as the framework for my school climate endeavors, I'm honored to have co-authored a new book with the creators of Invitational Theory and Practice, Drs. William Purkey and John Novak.

We are pleased to introduce you to: Developing Inviting Schools: A beneficial framework for teaching and leading.

We believe that this book is an ideal guide for school leaders and teachers who wish to understand how words, actions, and every aspect of a school messages stakeholders that they are able, valuable, and responsible or they are not. Every message we receive influences our self-concept, which in turn, influences what we believe to be true about ourselves and our choices of behavior.

Developing Inviting Schools provides a simple, but not simplistic, framework for addressing the social and emotional health of students and staff. You'll learn how to create a shared mindset and intentional way of communicating care, optimism, respect, and trust. You'll discover school climate strategies that align well with an invitational framework, and I hope you'll be inspired by the stories of schools that have been transformed through this simple approach.

So, if you have been looking for a systemic way to create a "doing with" instead of a "doing to" approach to school, I encourage you to read Developing Inviting Schools along with your school climate committee and entire staff.
