A "must have" college guidebook for high school seniors and their parents!
By ChristopherMomm
As a parent of a senior in high school, my son and I found the college search and application process overwhelming! College Apps is here to help! CollegeApps takes the parent and student through the complete college journey...from how college works, to selecting a major, applying to college, tuition, financial aid, and finally...acceptance! There are also chapters with important topics to contemplate... senioritis, hazing, academic integrity...this book has it all! The Glossary of "Key Terms" was also extremely helpful as there were many new college terms my son and I needed to learn!
This book has truly been a lifesaver! It is a quick read, easy to understand, and includes helpful tips from current college students, which my son enjoyed reading. The included worksheets were essential... student activity sheet, teacher request for letter of recommendation, financial aid, and MANY more!
I highly recommend this book for high school juniors (start the process now), high school seniors, and their parents! CollegeApps has truly simplified the college process and made the experience enjoyable for all. A HUGE "thank you" to Trish Portnoy for an essential college guide book!

As a fellow School Leadership 2.0 member, I'd like to share some great news: I recently had the awesome opportunity to publish a textbook inspired by a course I teach at West Islip High School. The course, College Freshman Seminar, is a senior-year elective that is offered in the fall to assist students (and their parents) through the often stressful, college selection and application processes.
The course is more than just an extra period to work...the instructional plan addresses career interests and planning, SUNY schools and applications, Common App, letters of recommendation, other supplemental requirements, and scholarships and financial aid. However, this dynamic curriculum also covers other important topics, such as senioritis, time management, binge drinking, date rape, and campus safety. It is vital to prepare our children for this transition to independent living while also cautioning them on potential hazards.
The feedback from students, parents, administrators and guidance counselors has been outstanding. Everyone raves about the stress-free experience and how knowledgeable and prepared our students are for college-life. The accolades were so inspiring to me that College Apps: Selecting, Applying to, and Paying for the Right College for You was written so other schools and students could benefit as well.
I would love the opportunity to share more information with you about the benefits of offering a college prep course within the school day. In addition, Art Weiss or your local Cengage sales rep is able to provide you with an examination copy for your review.
