Before-school physical activity may improve children's BMI, wellness

Youths who participated in an hourlong, before-school physical activity program three times a week were more likely to move to a lower body mass index category and had better schoolwork engagement scores compared with those who didn't participate, according to a study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Researchers also found significantly better energy, mood and vitality among those who participated in the program twice a week, compared with controls.
