18 Sessions and a Full-Day Pre-Convention Workshop on Common Core at ACTFL 2013

Understanding the Common Core Standards is very important to all language educators. At the 2013 ACTFL Convention this year, the program offers a full-day pre-convention workshop, Keys to Planning for Student Learning: Implementing Common Core Literacy Strategies presented by Laura Terrill, an Independent Consultant for ACTFL. This workshop will focus on the connection between the National Standards and the Common Core with an emphasis on implementation of Common Core Reading and Writing Standards at all levels of instruction. It will allow participants to develop daily lessons incorporating strategies that engage students as they work with literary and informational texts. Writing strategies that allow students to begin to express their own thinking as they create narrative, argumentative and informative texts will also be modeled. (The workshop builds on a forthcoming ACTFL publication by Laura Terrill and Donna Clementi.) The workshop will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM in the Orange County Convention Center (West Building). This workshop provides 6 hours of CEU credit.

At least 18 other sessions will be held during the ACTFL Annual Convention, November 22-24, specifically addressing the Common Core. Learn more about these sessions (and hundreds more) by going to the ACTFL Convention website and clicking on the "Access the Online Program." In the “search” field, type in “Common Core” to see all the sessions held on FridaySaturday and Sunday related to the Common Core. Each one-hour session you attend equals one hour of CEU credit.

Don’t delay. Register now to ensure your seat in the pre-convention workshop. Don’t forget to make your housing reservation at the same time.

We look forward to seeing you in Orlando.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
