Dear colleagues,

Around the state, Governor Cuomo has been holding hearings to "fix education".  He appointed a panel (no practicing educators) and they will write a report to the governor based on what they hear.  I attended the hearing in NYC and it was "set up" with charter advocates and "reform advocates" who recommended things like the removal of tenure.  The commission is coming to Long Island this Thursday. I have been promised the opportunity to speak for 3 minutes on teacher and principal quality I also intend to hammer over-testing..  My testimony, which I will is summarize, is attached.

There is still time to ask to testify. There is also time to speak at the end.  Even if you do not speak, I would really appreciate the moral support of your presence when I testify.  This commission needs to see that Long Island school leaders are united in their opposition to APPR, our newspapers need to see that too.

Here are the details. You have to RSVP to  NYEducationReformCommission@exec.ny.gov in order to attend. You can also send testimony.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
