A Network Connecting School Leaders From Around The Globe
by Steve Peha
Whether my clients work in a Common Core state or not, one of the top requests over the last two years has been more samples of engaging nonfiction texts that can be used for close reading and evidence-based expository, persuasive, and argumentative writing. Recently, I stumbled across the best collection of writings meeting these needs that I have ever seen.
Today’s kids are highly attracted to environmental issues. And the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) has over 300 short-from blog posts on every environmental and policy issue you could imagine in their EDF Voices blog section. Also included aresome terrific infographics as well.
What I appreciate most about EDF’s stuff is that it’s reasonable, not radical. Their general philosophy is to encourage individuals, corporations, municipalities, and larger government entities to improve environmentally-friendly policy, but they do this by expressing their ideas in a thoughtful style that shows a deep understanding of political, economic, and social realities.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
