The idea of placing cameras in the classroom has become an issue in the election of the next superintendent of public schools in North Carolina, which pits Republican Michele Morrow against Democrat Mo Green, a lawyer who has prior experience as a public-school superintendent. Camera-supporter Morrow, a nurse who has criticized public schools as "socialism centers" and chose to home-school her own children, beat incumbent Catherine Truitt in the Republican primary to advance to the general election to face Green, who opposes cameras and says "schools are not indoctrination centers that should be surveilled, as my opponent claims."
