Many thanks for inviting me here. I really appreciate the telents, experiences, and resources gathered here in LI Leadership consortium. I am not sure how much I would be able to contribute, but I am certain that I will benefit immensely from this educational technology leadership group.

    Warm regards,

    Teh-yuan

    Hey Blanca,

Great to meet you in person, finally. Note the time.
  • Teh-yuan Wan, Ph.D.

Delighted to know that you went to CoSN '08 and participated in the visit to the Congress representatives. I have been going in the past few years and joined many NYS education technology leaders in such visits, trying to convince some of the law makers from NYS to support technology funding. It has been a uphill battle in the past few years and hope things will turn around soon. Otherwise, we will have a greater challenge to keep the US competitiveness in the new global, knowledge-based economy.

I decided to cancel my trip to CoSN the last minute as I had just been away from office for four days (between meetings at NYCDOE, Teacher Centers and WNET Teaching and Learning Celebration) and could not affort another few days in D.C., especially before my trip to a couple of events in China in April. The T&L Celebration in NYC was a wonderful and a way up there in quality of the programming in terms of the keynotes, topics, schedules. Definitely I walked away with a lot to chew on.

By the way, did you participate in the International Symposium at CoSN, which I find it very worthwhile to be a part of to gain an international perspective on technology power in educational transformation. I am definitely going next year and hope we will have a better organized delegation of NYS ed. tech. leaders to pay visits to the offices of NYS senators and House representatives. What are the best things you have brought back from CoSN?

    Hi Blanca,
How are you? We sure have a lot of catching up to do. There's a lot going on in Uniondale and most of it is good. We'll talk at the next ITRC meeting.

Wow. Very impressive what you've done here. I don't know if you sent me a message, but I got an email from Ning that you had--although I couldn't find the message when I came here... but I'm really glad I did come--great work!
  • Steve Hargadon

Glad to be inspiring. I never got that message--was there any other help you need?
  • Lisa M. Strahs-Lorenc

As a start, since we are challenged with resources as well as time, please visit our website at www.liworks.org and review our programs, calendar, articles and home pages. I think that will be helpful in understanding our mission and initiatives.

Hi Blanca and Blanca's friends. I really enjoyed the Leadership Forum on Tuesday as you gave us a chance to gather with others who can't stop learning, sharing and collaborating. It is so good to know that you are here to keep the support and integration alive! Blanca & Dan, you were a wonderful team!
  • Lenny DiBiase

This is an incredible site. I hope all is well and that we catch up soon.

Hello Blanca- I enjoyed the 2-Mill.video clip you have added to your page. I visited India this year (with my four young children) to see family. We went to Bangalore- known as the Silicon Valley of Asia. It is where the US outsources for much of its labor needs. The difference between the American mind-set about education and the Asian midset is incomparable. We are so blessed and so needy at the same time. Yes, something is broken, but is it education or something more invisible?
  • CMAZZA4

Hey Blanca. Get meeting you at my training center in Long Island City back in April for the Intel class. Hope all is well. See you in Texas? NECC?
  • Pamela Furline

    Greeting Blanca,
Thanks for the invitation. Looking forward to an exciting exchange.

    Hi Blanca,

Thanks for your comment and email. I look forward to your comments regarding students / teachers and online research and would appreciate if you could comment directly on our blog www.cangooglehearus.blogspot.com
Soon we will start working with schools in NYC, it would be great if we could collaborate between classes, museums and other opportunities as most NYC kids perceive Long Island as a really, really far place...

    Hello Ms. Duarte,

    How is the new job!!!!!!
  • Gloria P. Dingwall

    Blanca,
It is wonderful to hear from you! I hope that your family is well. We are having a fabulous time with our SmartBoards. I purchased two additional ones with our school budget. The teachers love them. I only need 28 more!

I hope you are enjoying your new position. We miss you. Say hello to the UnPhil.

Thanks for the insight and the link. What is the most important and crucial challenge facing educators today?

    Hi Blanca,
I was at T&L conference. Sorry we missed one another (let's try to schedule to meet when you are in the city). The interview with Eric Schmidt was very interesting, as was the whole conference. As a google Certified Educator, I truly believe their innovations are top notch. Google has the following "search" product (for universities and colleges, not k-12 yet).
    "Google Search For Your School
    Sponsored by: Google
Learn how deploying a scalable search solution enables students to
easily access course schedules, curriculum, prerequisites, campus
activities, and other content; increases faculty and staff productivity
    by making research and administrative documents easily searchable online;
and helps prospective students and members of the community find the
information they need on your website using a familiar search tool
customized to your needs. Learn from the experiences of leading institutions
such as Illinois State University and the University of Florida in this
free, 60-minute webcast sponsored by Google."

    Hi Blanca,

Yes. I do think we know each other from T.E.A.M. from many years ago. How is everything with you? Where are you now? Are you teaching still?

    Have a good week.

    Hi again Blanca,

I tried to get rid of the message, but to no avail. Whether hovering or right clicking, nothing seemed to come up that said "delete" or "erase" so the ridiculous message is still there. Spam is so annoying! Any other suggestions? :)
  • Deborah Gerken

    Thanks Blanca!
Can you please post a message so I know that you have received this!
  • Mark Cruthers

    Hi Blanca,

With your interest in Education Technology ToolsI recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.

    Blanca:

I am honored that you took the time to welcome me. Thank you. I was thinking about starting an international group. May I ask what area of Long Island do you work? I have taken seminars in Huntington at the Marriott. It was through, of all organizations, the National Business Institute. The topic of the seminar was ' School Violence '. I have also taken seminars in Stony Brook. That course encompassed the topic of special education's IEP forms.
Yuk!!!! I hate filling out those things. A student who can not understand concepts in the same way that other people do should not be treated because of a name. The student should be treated like any other student. Do you agree? By the way.....In Jordan....specifically Amman,,,,,they treat those same students who learn differently than others are treated like any other student. I was invited by Dr. Khaled Toukan, the Minister of Education, to tour various schools that had students who learn differently and see ' What Works There '. They included students who ranged from 3 years of age to 15 years of age. Inclusion is the norm. Trust me. It works. Again...Thank you for welcoming me. I will try to contribute as much as I can.

    Honorably Yours,

    Frank P.

    Blanca,
Have you read Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now? Any good? I heard an interview with him the other day and I think I need to order it.
  • Percy E Holmes

    Hello Blanca,
Oh please forgive me, I never realized that you sent me a message. I'm back on the site because I'll be applying for a new job and I can't believe that 11 years have past at Westbury. I'm on here looking for some sample questions that might help me prepare for my interview on Tue.

I'm sure you may be aware that Dr. Clark and Dr. Root will be leaving. We already have a new Assistant Sup and I'm sure Westbury will continue to move forward. Well enough about me, how are you? How is the new job coming along? I hope you are in good health and good spirits.
