My background includes twenty-two years of diverse teaching assignments K-6, eleven years as a school district and building administrator, and twenty years as adjunct professor.I am currently teaching at the College of Staten Island (CUNY) in the Educational Leadership program. I am also teaching Media of Instruction, piloting a blended class where more than half of the sessions are held in Elluminate. At Walden University I am a Contributing Faculty Member in the Masters in Elementary Reading and Literacy program and Adolescent Literacy and Technology program. I serve as dissertation chair for several doctoral students. I am most passionate about sharing with educators how to infuse technology to create relevant learning experiences.
Hi Maxine, I was just reading your intro paragraph, you have such an interesting background of experience. I am also teaching ed leadership courses as an adjunct right now; I teach offsite courses for the College of Saint Rose. I am pursuing my doctorate online through Northcentral University, the new administration there is from Argosy, I believe. Tina Falsitta
Maxine, for now I go by the name Ti Falta in SL. Good luck with orientation, perhaps I will see you on ISTE Island (that is where I usually go). What is your SL name?
So far, so good with the online courses. Northcentral courses are individualized and don't have the group work component that many of the other online universities have which works out great for me. I passed COMPS in January, am finishing my research courses and hope to be ABD and start my dissertation by the fall. Did you complete your Ed.D. at Walden? How does facilitating courses at Walden and Argosy differ? Good luck with SL this week, are you attending a face to face training?
Let me first start by commending you on your distinguished career. It is obvious that you are passionate about education and the proper preparation of educators.
I am an assistant principal at a middle school in Nassau County. I have been working diligently over the past few years to integrate technology in the classroom. We have implemented the use of smartboards, elmos and are in the second year of project lead the way. My concern is a common one, how do I encourage the use of these types of technologies with veteran/reluctant staff members? In particular, teachers of mathematics.
Thank you so much for your timely response and excellent suggestions. I will take a look at the website when I have a chance to give it the proper attention. May I continue to bounce ideas off of you in the future and possibly add you as a friend?
Hi Maxine. It's been too long! I can see that you are involved in so many interesting things. Call me when you get a chance, I'd love to catch up. Arlene Mullin
With your work in Online (Blended) Learning, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.
