Disciplinary referrals declined in 2020-21 in a study of one district, yet the number of Black students that received "exclusionary discipline" was disproportionately high, according to New York University researcher Richard Welsh. Welsh suggests that schools offer more support and consider how Black students might be affected by trauma in different ways.
