The digital homework divide
An article by the Pew Research Center describes how their recent analysis of 2015 census data shows that 15% of U.S. households with school-aged children do not have a dependable computer or internet connection at home. 2018 survey findings from Pew show that some teens have difficulty getting their homework completed because they do not have reliable access to the internet. This rate is highest in African-American and Hispanic households making below $30,000 a year. In fact, 24% of teens in impoverished households say this prevents them from finishing their homework in comparison to 9% of teens in households making more than $75,000 a year. A total of 12% of impoverished teens report using public wi-fi to get their homework completed.
