Can anyone think critically about critical thinking?

To start with, the phrase "critical thinking" is unnecessary. Thinking is quite sufficient. Can anybody's students do that anymore?

Well, color me cynical. But I think the public schools started yammering about Critical Thinking exactly at the time they decided not to bother with it anymore.

If you teach arithmetic with Common Core, you're going to get confused students. After all, they're taught that a wrong answer is okay if the kid can make a good case for it.

If you teach reading with sight-words, you're going to get students who can barely read. In what sense can they think if they cannot read a simple paragraph to get more information?

This article is an attempt to clear the desk, to put things in order, to help people reflect on what Critical Thinking could be. This reflection is a constructive activity. Please encourage it widely.

IT'S TIME TO THINK CRITICALLY ABOUT CRITICAL THINKING
