ESL New Dehli India

New Post

I writitng today to summaruize my most recent experiences while visiting New Dehli, India. I am very impressed by the work conducted by the AAM Foundation (AAMF.org). Essentially, the organization provides free ESL classes for students in the New Dehli area in roughly 50 centers. The creative thought process has enabled the organization to lauch an ambitious initiative to create 100 centers across the city.

Today we discussed the possibility of utilizing poetry, music,… Continue

MORAL PURPOSE WRIT LARGE By Michael Fullan, Ph.D.

MORAL PURPOSE WRIT LARGE

By Michael Fullan, Ph.D.

The pressing goal is to infuse spiritual force into all educators.

The expanding interest in moral and spiritual leadership in education is an alluring but complex phenomenon. People can be automatically attracted to or repelled by the emphasis on the spiritual.

First, an explanation of the terminology. Both terms—"moral purpose" and "spiritual leadership"—have…

It's the Students, Stupid by Will Fitzhugh

It's the Students, Stupid

The billionaires' club, with their long retinue of pundits, researchers, and other hangers-on, are giving their attention, some of the time, to education. But they are not paying attention to the academic work of students, or to their responsibility for their own education.

Mr. Gates spent nearly two hundred million dollars recently on a program for teacher assessment, but does he realize that in almost every class there are…

From India

Recently, I was offered an opportunity to travel to India to work with an organization that provides ESL classes to students in New Dehli. The classes do not cost the students; however, they need to make a committment of one hour fourty-five minutes per day six days per week. The blended approach has provided students with the abiility to interact with software, engage in quality of instruction, and dialogue with their peers. I visited in one of the centers just southeast of my location. The… Continue

Fight For Our Kids

When thinking about sound literacy instruction and the daily challenges that we face as educators, I cannot help but consider the significant divide that exists between what research tells us is developmentally appropriate for children versus what the state of New York (and many other states across the country) is telling us our children need to do to be considered college and career ready. …
