Comments on 9/2/18 Poll - Pay off college debt with percentage of future income

 

As more students balk at the debt loads they face after college graduation, some colleges are offering an alternative: We'll pay your tuition if you offer us a percentage of your future salary.  Rates and years of payback depend upon the major selected.  Do you think this is a good idea?

Students should have more up-front opportunities to save money (scholarships, grants) in attending college, not more opportunities at "back-end" college loans, where colleges would have to pay lending institutions to finance and service more loans. Our credit industry is already making too much money! Let's find creative ways to help students without charging them interest, or colleges will go bankrupt in the near future, since students won't want to be in long-term debt. Anonymous
Not really sure, as it would depend upon the terms, but the amount of student loan debt required to graduate college is insurmountable and unreasonable. Anonymous

I need more details concerning the alternative. The fine print will get you. Need more tuition than a different school? You're going to be paying awhile as you earn more money. Anonymous
No different than doing ROTC or military scholarships. Anonymous
It's a bad idea! 1st; college tuition is too high to begin with 2nd; students have to to be "responsible" for the decisions they make today. Anonymous
I want college to be free. We are wasting the potential of our young people or chaining them to debt. The children of the wealthy are not our only bright and capable ones. Anonymous
