A common misconception amongst non-educators is that educators enjoy the summer off. How many weeks this summer will you NOT be working either on your regular job in education or in a paid job other than your regular position or going for training/credits and/or professional development?

Even when I am on "vacation" I receive school-related phone calls, messages, and emails that need to be answered in a timely fashion. |

As a principal, I work all summer. |

This idea has been around for too many years. If it's so nice, go get your degree and have summers off too. |

In my 18 years of teaching I have only not worked 3 summers...this summer I am working in a limited capacity...but it also is a time for rejuvenating, learning, brainstorming, revisions, and creativity without the million other tasks that have to be completed during the school year. It is also a time for me to catch up on life. |
