I am fortunate to have been employed in the Central Islip School District as an instrumental music teacher since September, 2004. I am very proud of the accomplishments of the fourth grade students at the O'Neill and Morrow elementary schools. It is always exciting to see the talents of my former student's grow.
I am in the process of 'growing' as well. In 2010, I completed my coursework and exams through the Huntington High School Cohort program of Stony Brook University, and am now a certified Educational Leader. In addition to working closely with incredible administrators, I chose to focus my internship on building a stronger relationship between home and school. I developed a 'parent literacy handbook' and have distributed it at several parent literacy workshops. The feedback received from the parents who attended made all of the preparation well worth it!
My other love is demystifying technology for children and adults. I was fortunate to have grown up with computers and have always been working on different projects. My website goes into depth on this. In depth data analysis - though quite scary in the beginning - has led me to a greater understanding of the correlation of all of the testing that occurs in the elementary schools. I feel that it is such a shame that the data is not broken down for the teachers in a manner in which they can understand it.
