Educators and researchers say AI shows promise in speeding up assessment scoring and delivering faster feedback to students, but caution that human involvement must remain central to the process to guard against bias, privacy risks and inaccurate results. A 2024 EdWeek Research Center survey found that about 36% of teachers and school leaders believe AI will make standardized testing worse over the next five years, compared with only 19% who said it might improve assessments.
