Cathy - We have just deployed a cart of iPads to a class of students, and I have set up Dropbox accounts (http://dropbox.com) for each student, with a shared folder between the teacher and student.  You can contact me if you want some further details on this effort.

What is the best program to use to create documents?  Also, is there a way to down load documents from my PC to my IPad?  I would like to use the IPad as I do observations.

Is anyone using iPads as data collection devices for walkthrough observations?

We have a group here trying to identify the data elements we want to capture. Once these "questions" are collected, we plan on developing a Google Form to tap in the data  collected during these walkthroughs. This form will be accessible to the Building Admins. so the data they collect can be collected in one location and then analyzed at a latter date.  Anyone else doing something similar? Perhaps we could trade forms?

Just came across this  iPad app that turns an iPad into an interactive whiteboard: "Splashtop Whiteboard allows teachers and students to turn their iPad into an interactive whiteboard. Once connected to their computer over Wifi, they can watch Flash media with fully synchronized video and audio, control favorite applications then annotate over lesson content all from an iPad."

Possibly is a cheap alternative, albeit limited, to conventional pricey boards. At any rate, teachers can easily pass an iPad around the classroom and have students project answers, lead lessons, etc.

See it at:

I came across this wonderful blog that shares some iPad apps that align to Bloom's Digital Taxonomy. For right now, the apps that are recommended are for the levels that correspond to Knowledge and Comprehension.

Click on the levels to see recommended iPad Apps. The blog post is locat

ed on Edutopia. I'll update the list as more posts are created.

Last week, Apple announced the availability of AirPlay Mirroring in the new iOS 5 software.  Teachers equipped with an iPad 2 can upgrade to iOS 5 this Fall, and will be able to wirelessly transmit whatever's on their screen to any projector/TV hooked up to an Apple TV or other AirPlay compatible device.

I received an IPad via a grant! My 11 year old son has not put this thing down the entire weekend and is trying to convince me that he will do more with it than I will and so why not just let him have it!!

It would be pretty amazing to get one for every kid in my building, so if you know of any grants to support funding ipads for about 500, let me know!!  21st century kids need this technology!!

Hi,

In Mineola, we had a 1:1 deployment with iPAds this year with my fifth grade students...(81)

We felt it was very successful this year.

Thanks Don.  Do you know of any that are using them for ESL use?  I'm working on a dissertation topic.
