It is with great interest that I introduce myself as a candidate for a

position with your school district. I come with dual New York State certification in

Special Education and Social Studies. Additionally, I come with a unique set of

experiences that enhance my approach to lesson and curriculum development


I currently teach 4 global studies courses differentiated to the needs of

special education students at the August Aichhorn Center in Brooklyn, New York.

These students are considered to be some of the most troubled in the New York

state juvenile justice system. I utilized my background in urban education and

with special needs students to design an entire curriculum that addresses the

issues many of these students struggle with. As a result I have successfully

created a safe and enjoyable classroom experience for these youngsters. Our

principal has stated on numerous occasions, and through my most recent review,

how much the students enjoy my class and how thrilled she is with the gains

they have made academically.

My educational position prior to this was with a unique alternative school

for the New York City Department of Education. We worked with students who

did not do well in a traditional high school for various reasons and transferred to

ours. This experience along with weekly professional development in literacy has

improved my ability to differentiate lesson planning making it sharper and

smarter. I have become fantastic at producing lessons that allow all levels and

type of learner an entry point. I couple this, with the wise use of data, to

examine where students might be struggling and ensure daily curriculum

planning addresses these needs. My background in broadcast journalism and

studies abroad in Europe give me a creative approach to topics others simply

may just miss.

the transition from juvenile detention to valuable members of their community.
Ÿ Designed entire New York State compliant global studies curriculum with modifications and methods developed for the
specific needs of special education students.
Ÿ Utilized data from various sources to determine areas where students were struggling and design appropriate
modifications to improve student performance and decrease frustration.
Ÿ Examined the results of the Woodcock Johnson, other standardized exams and teacher created assessments in order
to develop student goals for their individual education plan and develop individualized methods to improve student

inner-city high school students.
