DESCRIPTION:The Pre-K — Grade 2 Common Core Standards related to Rea
 ding aim to foster students’ understanding and working knowledge of 
 the concepts of print, phonological awareness, phonics and word recogn
 ition, and fluency. This workshop will familiarize teachers with the N
 ew York State Pre-K through Grade 2 Common Core Reading Standards-Foun
 dational Skills and provide strategies to develop a literacy rich clas
 sroom environment that supports literacy acquisition and is responsive
  to the expectations of the Standards.\n \nEssential Topics to be dis
 cussed:\n\nAlignment of NYS Prekindergarten Standards and K-12 Common 
 Core State Standards\nAnchor Standards for Reading as they apply to Pr
 eK ~ Grade 2\nTranslating the CCSS to explicit instruction\nMini lesso
 ns and suggested resources, such as mentor texts to support various te
