DESCRIPTION:Writing to Learn A one-week workshop for teachers July 1
 8-22, 2011  Teachers from Queens middle schools and high schools can
  earn two graduate credits from the Bard Masters in Teaching program.
  The Writing to Learn workshop presents an introduction to inventive 
 writing strategies that help students gain a better understanding of 
 complex ideas, historical documents, literary texts, and mathematical
  problems. Writing to Learn practices . can be used in the classroom
  and as homework assignments, . support close reading of documents an
 d literary texts; . allow students to make personal connections to pe
 ople, places, and events they study; . encourage students to learn fr
 om one another.  Why IWT? . Secondary school faculty work side by s
 ide in small group workshops. . IWT workshops taught by faculty assoc
 iates with experience in secondary education. . Every workshop demons
 trates how to combine writing, reading, and listening to create effec
 tive lesson plans in all academic subjects. . Workshops are intellect
 ually stimulating and feature diverse texts ñ fiction, poetry, essays
 , historical documents, and research. . Ongoing commitment to teachi
 ng through writing in follow-up weekend workshops at schools and coll
