h Policy and Practice Issues in the Wake of Sandy Hook:\nAn Invitation
  to the Conversation\nWednesday, April 3, 2013 - 4-5:30pm\nUniversity
Club, David S. Mack Hall, North Campus\nThe deadly shooting at Sandy H
ook Elementary School in Connecticut has generated shock, grief and pa
ssionate discussion, all leading ultimately to the question: how do we
prevent such horrific tragedies from reoccurring in our society? With
the shooting deaths of innocent children and educators in a school co
mmunity, basic assumptions have been shattered, and people are trying
to understand how such things can happen. In particular, schools are b
eing challenged to focus on ways to better prevent and address such cr
ises. As a country, we need to do a much better job in the identificat
ion and early intervention of those with mental illness conditions; we
need to provide families appropriate intervention supports in the com
munity; we need to help schools, colleges and communities better addre
ss the mental health needs of their members; and, we need to take this
challenge on as relevant to all of us! As an educator, you are invite
d to this panel discussion led by experienced practitioners aimed at e
xploring these issues and how we can move toward positive changes. Com
