DESCRIPTION:The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center is the VOICE O
 F TOLERANCE on Long Island. The Center, in cooperation with the Claire
  Friedlander Family Foundation and the Police Departments of Nassau an
 d Suffolk Counties, is pleased to announce the second annual “Friedl
 ander Upstander Award.”\n \nThe $2,500 education scholarship will b
 e awarded to one student each from Nassau and Suffolk Counties, who ha
 s shown her/himself to be an Upstander against intolerance in any of i
 ts forms.  The student’s action as an Upstander could be one of int
 ervention or prevention.  The award will be designated for educationa
 l purposes. Representatives of the Claire Friedlander Family Foundatio
 n, the Center, and the Police Departments will present the award to bo
 th recipients at a special ceremony during our Tolerance Benefit in Ma
 y.\n \nThe Claire Friedlander Family Foundation was established by Cl
 aire Friedlander, a Holocaust Survivor whose life was saved by people 
 who took a stand against prejudice. This award honors her life and emb
 odies her legacy.\n \nGuidelines:\nMiddle school and high school stud
 ents are eligible. \nStudents must be nominated by an adult in their 
 school or community. \nBoth the student and adult must each submit a 
 one-page summary explaining why the student should be the recipient of
  the “Friedlander Upstander Award.”  Nominations may be submitted
  by a teacher, guidance counselor or community leader who has knowledg
 e of the student as an Upstander.\nSummaries must include details on h
 ow the student took action against intolerance or promoted acceptance 
 and respect within their school or community. \n \nApplication packe
